Weekly Fuel Market Update – Week of June 4, 2025

Sorry for the delay, it got a bit busy (and still is) with month-end stuff. But, I am prioritizing the weekly fuel news update with some good information to share with you all!

For companies like us catering to fleets, mostly in California, there’s a bit of cautious optimism in the air. And I am sharing this with you customers and friends, because I am sure this will bring good news to you as well.

The U.S. Senate just moved to STOP those overly ambitious zero-emission truck mandates.

That includes the ACT (Advanced Clean Trucks Rule) and the low NOx regs, by revoking the EPA waivers that let those mandates move forward in the first place.

Most of us, small, medium, even some big operations, have done the research, used our entrepreneurial brains and good old logic, and realized something pretty obvious: these “one-size-fits-all electric plans” just don’t work.

They’re simply not realistic. And for a bunch of good reasons: Cost to buy, cost to own, lack of charging stations, crazy long charging times…

The good news? More practical options are showing up.

Renewable Diesel is turning out to be a real game-changer. It gives fleets immediate emissions reductions; without the huge price tag or the downtime that comes with trying to electrify everything.

It also works with what we already have. Renewable Diesel gets you similar environmental benefits, and it’s basically a drop-in replacement. The infrastructure is already set up at truck stops and fuel sites, so wherever you’re fueling up now, you can fuel up with this.

That’s a win-win for fleet owners who need to keep trucks moving and stay in the black. It’s a way more realistic path forward than betting everything on electrification mandates that just aren’t ready for prime time.

RETAIL FUEL PRICE COMPARISON

San Diego County:
Regular unleaded $4.74/gal (about 5¢ down from last week, 29¢ lower than a year ago)
Diesel $4.83/gal (about 3¢ down from last week, 24¢ lower year-on-year)

California (statewide):
Regular $4.78 (down ~8¢ on the week, ~28¢ below last year’s level)
Diesel $5.06 (down ~3¢ on the week, ~16¢ below last year)

U.S. National Average:
Regular $3.14 (roughly 3¢ cheaper than last week and ~40¢ less than the same time last year)
Diesel $3.49 (about 5¢ lower than last week and 27¢ lower year-on-year)

Overall, gasoline and diesel prices are considerably lower than last summer’s highs, which is welcome news for fleet budgets.

CRYSTAL BALL (meaning my projection)

Fuel prices are holding steady, and for now, they’re staying well below last summer’s levels.

We’re in peak driving season, demand is up, but refineries are producing more in proportion to demand… this is currently maintaining prices for everyone.

No big jumps expected unless a major hurricane hits refineries (NOAA ‘National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’ says there’s a 60% chance of an above-normal season).

SUMMER TIP FOR YOUR FANCY FLEET!

Hot temps are coming, and they’re brutal on engines, tires, and batteries.

Don’t wait for a breakdown: check coolant levels, belts, and hoses now. Monitor tire pressure daily (heat causes spikes), and watch tread wear.

Weak batteries? Replace them before the heat does it for you. Keep filters clean and your A/C blowing cold; for both fuel efficiency and driver sanity.

THANK YOU CUSTOMERS, AND A QUICK ASK:

Thanks for trusting Energie Fuel to keep your fleet running smarter.

If we’ve helped your business, we’d be grateful if you’d pass our name along.

A quick referral goes a looong way! Especially from someone in the industry.

Appreciate you. Let’s keep moving forward. 🚚💨
