Good afternoon, Customers, Clients & Colleagues –
We hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Fourth of July celebration. 🎆
There’s been a lot of difficult news in the media lately… and sadly, much of it is real. Our hearts go out to all the families impacted by the severe storms and flooding in Texas, and to those going through separation of any kind. 🙏
Prayers are free. And a positive action we can all partake to help combat negativity.
🔎 This Week’s Fuel Breakdown:
• Up-to-date Wholesale Pricing (shared privately with customers)
• Fuel Tax Updates
• Weekly Fuel News
• Retail Fuel Prices
📉 Crude Oil Snapshot (WTI)
As of this morning, WTI Crude is trading in the mid medium-$60s per barrel, a noticeable drop from the price spike we saw in mid-June.
That spike was short-lived. Caused by brief war tensions between Israel and Iran. Thankfully, a ceasefire came quickly, and since then, oil prices have cooled and stabilized even after the July 4th holiday. The market is also staying calm thanks to expected supply increases.
💸 Fuel Tax Updates
Some routine and local tax changes took effect July 1:
Local Sales Tax (San Diego County): • Escondido, CA: +1% • San Marcos, CA: +1%
All other SD cities remain unchanged.
California Excise Tax Adjustments:
• Gasoline: increased from $0.596 → $0.612 per gallon
• Clear Diesel: $0.454 → $0.466 per gallon
• Red-Dyed Diesel: No change (still tax-exempt)
These are pre-planned, inflation-adjusted updates used to fund infrastructure. Net impact at the pump is just a penny or two per gallon. Nothing unexpected here.
🌍 Weekly Fuel News
We’re deep into summer driving season, so fuel demand is up — but supply meeting demand.
Thanks to OPEC+ announcing production increases and global tensions easing, prices are holding steady or slightly dropping.
📉 This year’s Fourth of July had the lowest gas prices for the holiday since 2020, and nearly every state saw a dip in fuel costs over the past two weeks.
⛈️ Unless a major disruption hits (like a Gulf hurricane), analysts believe the national average could fall below $3/gal later this summer.
✅ Bottom line: Supply is strong, tensions are lower, and fuel price trends are favorable for drivers.
🛠️ Retail Fuel Price Update
San Diego County: • Gas: ~$4.62/gal (↓ 1¢) • Diesel: ~$4.98/gal (↑ 8¢)
California (State Average): • Gas: ~$4.54/gal (↓ 5¢) • Diesel: ~$5.16/gal (↑ 5¢)
U.S. National Average: • Gas: ~$3.13/gal (↓ 6¢) • Diesel: ~$3.74/gal (flat; ↑ 1¢)
🟢 Gasoline is a little cheaper almost everywhere. 🟡 Diesel is mostly stable, with a slight increase in some areas.
Compared to this time last year, fuel costs are still significantly lower; and that’s a win for businesses and families alike.
Wishing you all a strong and safe rest of the week. We’ll keep tracking the markets and sharing what matters most. If you ever have questions about trends, pricing, or fuel planning: let’s connect.
Thank you for reading,
