Good Afternoon Customers,
Buena Tarde Clientes,
Retail Fuel Prices
Retail gasoline prices have continued to decline since the end of September.
The U.S. national average for regular gas is around $3.08 per gallon as of mid-October, down from roughly $3.12 two weeks ago. According to GasBuddy data, the national average fell about 6.4 cents in the last week alone (to $3.02 on October 13) and is nearly 14 cents lower than a month ago.
This marks the first time in a while that current prices are actually below the levels seen one year ago. Drivers are beginning to feel some relief, and analysts suggest we may soon see a “$2.99” national average if the downward trend continues.
Lower seasonal fuel demand and the switch to cheaper winter-blend gasoline have contributed to this decline, with gasoline consumption dropping to a four-month low as autumn sets in.
• East Coast: $2.98 → $2.94
• Midwest: $2.93 → $2.90
• Gulf Coast: $2.67 → $2.65
• Rocky Mountain: $3.11 → $3.00
• West Coast: $4.24 → $4.20
All regions are slightly cheaper than two weeks ago.
Market Factors
• Lower Seasonal Demand: With summer travel over, demand has dropped to a four-month low, easing prices further.
• Winter-Blend Transition: Stations have fully switched to winter-blend gasoline, which is cheaper to make and helps push prices down.
• Crude Oil Drop: WTI crude fell below $60 per barrel; the lowest since spring, after markets calmed around global tensions and oil demand expectations softened.
• Regional Recovery: West Coast refinery maintenance has mostly wrapped up, and supply in the Rocky Mountains is back to normal after temporary tightness earlier this fall.
