Weekly Fuel Market Update – Week of July 21, 2025

Good Afternoon Customers,

I hope your week is off to a great start.

Here’s your weekly fuel price update: quick, clear, and focused on what you need to know.

Retail Fuel Prices

Retail fuel prices continue to show a slight decrease across most regions:

San Diego County: Regular Gas is averaging $4.56/gal, slightly lower than last week’s ~$4.60.
California Statewide: Regular gas sits around $4.49/gal, down ~4 cents from the week prior.
U.S. National Average: Gas is about $3.14/gal, kinda flat, slightly decreasing.
Diesel prices, however, are going up just a hair: National average diesel is around $3.72/gal, a little increase versus last week.

What can we expect this Week?

Hopefully nothing bad. The outlook is calm, and that’s a good thing.

Gasoline demand in the U.S. dropped from 9.15 to 8.48 million barrels/day.
Fuel inventories grew, helping national prices decrease a little.

If this continues, then ‘nationally’ we might see prices fall a bit below the $3 per gallon price, and we have not seen this since 2021.

Things that could go bad:

Natural Disasters… We’re entering peak storm season. The Gulf Coast, which produces over half of U.S. refining output, is vulnerable. And Alaska just had an earthquake. Any major natural disaster could cause sudden fuel supply issues and impact pricing fast.
Geopolitical Tensions (Trump, Putin, etc…) While markets haven’t reacted sharply to recent sanctions or regional incidents, the wrong spark could send crude prices higher overnight. Trade discussions, especially between the U.S. and Europe, may influence demand outlook and energy pricing trends globally.

Summary: We should have a good week this week, trend is flat to down.

As long as weather and global events cooperate, expect more of the same.

We’ll continue watching all indicators and keep you informed.

Safe driving and smart fueling,

Chris.
