Energie Fuel Cards
A retail fuel site is a standard gas station that serves the general public. Examples include Chevron, Shell, Mobil, ARCO, Valero, 76, and many other brands. These stations typically display fuel prices on large street signs. When a driver fuels at a retail station, the station charges the retail price posted at that location. Retail prices are generally higher than wholesale/cardlock prices.
A wholesale fuel site, also known as a CFN/Cardlock site, operates within a commercial fueling network. These locations serve businesses, fleets, and commercial drivers who use an approved fleet fuel card, such as the Energie Fuel Card. When a driver fuels at a CFN/Cardlock site, the station does not use the standard retail pricing formula. Instead, it applies a wholesale/cardlock pricing formula, which often delivers significant savings. In many cases, drivers save approximately $0.30 to $1.00 per gallon compared to standard retail fueling.
One important point to understand is that a station can look like a typical retail gas station while still participating in the CFN/Cardlock network. For example, a Valero, Mobil, 76, or other branded station may appear to be a standard retail location, but if it participates in the CFN/Cardlock network, Energie Fuel Card holders can receive wholesale/cardlock pricing when they fuel there.
Because of this, drivers should not rely solely on a station's brand name or street sign to determine whether it offers wholesale/cardlock pricing. Instead, they should use the approved site locator from Energie Fuel Group. The site locator identifies stations within the wholesale/cardlock network and helps drivers find the most cost-effective fueling locations. To maximize savings, we recommend using CFN/Cardlock locations whenever possible and encouraging all drivers to do the same. Consistently fueling at these locations can significantly reduce your fleet's overall fuel expenses.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid
DEF is a non-toxic, colorless aqueous solution made of 32.5% high-purity synthetic urea and 67.5% deionized water.
Urea is a nitrogen-based compound that comes from ammonia and carbon dioxide.
No, only diesel engines equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems require Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). As emissions standards tightened, most on-road diesel vehicles built after 2010 adopted SCR technology to stay compliant.
However, many older diesel engines, along with certain off-road and specialty equipment, continue to operate without DEF.
Yes, Energie Fuel Group delivers bulk DEF directly to your location, secured yard, or job site for fleets across Southern California. In addition, we support a wide range of diesel-powered vehicles, including sprinters, vans, SUVs, box trucks, refrigerated trucks (reefers), 18-wheelers, and more.
To get started, simply fill out the contact form on our DEF product page, and our team will reach out to discuss your fleet’s needs.
We offer DEF in multiple container sizes to meet your fleet’s needs, including 2.5-gallon jugs available by half pallet or full pallet, 55-gallon drums, 275-gallon totes, and 330-gallon totes.
No. DEF follows a single standardized formulation: 32.5% high-purity urea and 67.5% deionized water, and it must meet ISO 22241 specifications. Although brands vary, they all use the same chemical composition.
DEF goes into a dedicated DEF tank that stays separate from the diesel fuel tank. Most vehicles clearly label the fill point with a blue cap, making it easy to identify.
Most diesel vehicles consume DEF at a rate of about 2–4% of diesel fuel usage. In practical terms, that equals roughly 1 gallon of DEF for every 50–200 gallons of diesel burned. However, actual usage varies depending on engine size and duty cycle.
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is an emissions control technology that injects Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) into the exhaust stream. It converts harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless nitrogen and water vapor, helping diesel engines meet emissions standards.
Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are harmful gases that form during high-temperature engine combustion. They contribute to smog, acid rain, and respiratory problems.
Yes, DEF can degrade over time, especially when exposed to high temperatures or direct sunlight. In particular, excessive heat accelerates urea breakdown and reduces the fluid’s effectiveness. We recommend storing DEF in our Micro-Matic Closed Containers in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. For best results, maintain storage temperatures between 12°F and 86°F (-11°C to 30°C) to preserve DEF quality and performance.
DEF typically lasts up to two years when you store it at recommended temperatures. However, higher temperatures can shorten its shelf life and reduce effectiveness. To ensure optimal performance, always check the manufacturer’s date and avoid using expired DEF products.
Quality DEF meets ISO 22241 standards for purity and concentration. To ensure quality, look for proper labeling, sealed packaging, and a clear manufacturer's date.
We ensure that all DEF we offer meets ISO 22241 standards.
DEF is non-toxic and generally safe to handle; however, it can cause mild skin or eye irritation. Therefore, handle DEF with care to avoid unnecessary contact.
