WHERE ARE PRICES HEADING?
Fuel prices continue to show signs of stability, with a good chance they may come down in the coming weeks.
OPEC recently moved up its plan to increase oil supply, which is helping push crude prices lower. In the U.S., oil production is near record highs, and gasoline supply is strong. Demand has been steady but not surging; likely due to the softer economy and lower freight and travel activity. This balance between strong supply and mild demand is keeping prices on the low.
Many analysts believe prices will hold steady or drop slightly into fall. Some even predict that national gasoline averages could dip close to $3.00/gallon; something we haven’t seen in a while.
That’s especially possible if oil prices fall below $60 per barrel, as forecasted by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
WEATHER – POLITICAL
There are still risks. We’re now in the middle of hurricane season, and a major storm hitting Gulf Coast refineries could make prices go up. Or, global conflicts or sudden supply disruptions could do the same…
