Weekly Fuel Market Update – Week of September 3, 2025

Good Morning Customers,

Buen Día Clientes,

Happy Wednesday, everyone! We hope you had a relaxing Labor Day weekend. This week’s update is coming out a day later than usual, thanks to the long holiday and a busy end-of-month day ‘yesterday’; Thank you for your patience. Now, let’s dive into the latest fuel market happenings.

WHOLESALE FUEL COSTS-(reserved for customers only)

RETAIL FUEL PRICES > Snap Shot:

Here’s a quick look at average pump prices (regular gasoline and diesel) as of today, for San Diego, California, and the U.S. overall:

San Diego County: Regular $4.69/gal; Diesel $5.00/gal
California (state avg.): Regular $4.61/gal; Diesel $5.13/gal
United States (national avg.): Regular $3.19/gal; Diesel $3.70/gal

(For context: Local gasoline prices went up a couple of cents from last week, partly due to a brief spike in West Coast wholesale prices.)

(But; National averages have stabilized after a jump last week and are slightly down from a week ago.)

SOME NOTABLE TOPICS:

A severe thunderstorm flooded BP’s Whiting refinery in Indiana: One of the biggest in the U.S. Midwest, forcing a shutdown of key units like the crude processor and catalytic cracker. This disruption caused a quick price jump of 15 to 30 cents per gallon in states like Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana, with Chicago seeing increases of 20 to 50 cents at some pumps. The sharp rise highlights how even a short-lived event can rapidly ripple through the fuel market.
SoCal Fuel Prices Jump Before Labor Day: In the days leading up to Labor Day weekend, stations around Los Angeles, Long Beach, Santa Barbara, and Central Coast saw gasoline prices spiked noticeably; by about 10¢ per gallon. This bump was due to unexpected maintenance at local refineries, which limited supply. While the statewide average remained a couple of cents lower than last year, areas like Los Angeles and Long Beach briefly had pump prices higher than 2024 levels. The good news: as maintenance wraps up and refineries build back supply, prices should stabilize again soon.

Energie Fuel at PFCS 2025

On a positive note, our Energie Fuel team is actively participating in the Pacific Fuels and Convenience Summit (PFCS) this week in San Diego.

This annual conference (hosted by the California Fuels & Convenience Alliance) is a nice gathering of fuel marketers, gas station operators, and convenience store professionals.

We’re out here networking with industry peers, learning from experts in educational sessions, and checking out new products and ideas; all with the goal of becoming an even better service provider for you.

It’s a laid-back, knowledge-packed event and a great opportunity for us to “fuel up” on insights so we can serve our customers even better in the future.

We appreciate you all!

Thank you,

Chris
